WEPCo Limited and Bridgend County Borough Council Education Department are collaborating on the redevelopment of Ysgol Y Ferch O’r Sger and the amalgamation of Corneli Primary School and Afon-Y-Felin Primary School in a new building (Bridgend West Primary Cluster). The project entails the construction of an English Medium Primary School and a Welsh Medium Primary School within the Bridgend West (Cornelly area).

- Welsh Medium School Primary School (Corneli Site) – replacement of the existing Ysgol Y Ferch O’r Sgêr – located at existing Corneli Primary School site (Land at West of Heol Y Parc, North Cornelly, CF33 4LW) – Ysgol Y Ferch O’r Sgêr is a Welsh Medium school providing education for children between 3 and 11 years of age.
- English Medium School Primary School (Marlas Site) – (amalgamation of existing Corneli Primary School and Afon-Y-Felin Primary School)- located at Marlas Site (Land at East of Heol Y Parc, North Cornelly, CF33 4LW). The proposed new building – Marlas Site, is an English Medium school providing education for children between 3 and 11 years of age.
Capacity
The school will have the capacity to accommodate two classes per year group, ensuring a comprehensive and high-quality educational experience:
- Welsh Medium Primary School (Corneli Site)
The proposed building will accommodate 420 pupils aged 4-11 and a nursery to accommodate 60 pupils. - English Medium Primary School (Marlas Site)
The proposed building will accommodate 420 pupils aged 4-11 and a nursery to accommodate 60 pupils plus 15 ALN Students.

Project Development Update
WEPCo Limited and Bridgend County Borough Council (as joint Applicant) are intending to apply for planning permission to Bridgend County Borough Council (BCBC) for the Bridgend West Primary Cluster development for the following:
Proposed redevelopment of Cornelly Primary School and Ysgol Y Ferch O’r Sger, including the demolition of all existing buildings, the erection of a new Net Zero Carbon in operation school building, school sports provision, vehicular, pedestrian and cycle accesses, car and cycle parking, landscaping Sustainable Urban Drainage and associated infrastructure.
Formal pre-application consultation (PAC) on the draft Bridgend West Cluster planning application commenced on the 13th October 2023 and will end on the 10th November 2023.

The subsequent planning application will be publicised by the relevant LPA and any comments provided in response to the draft application will not prejudice your ability to make representations to the LPA on the related planning application.
