Community benefits

While our buildings are Net Zero Carbon in operation and built to BREEAM Excellent standards, WEPCo is not just about delivering new buildings.

We improve the aspirations of young people by supporting improvements in attainment, providing ‘added value’ through community benefits, and encouraging engagement with young people and the local community.

That’s why community benefit is contractually embedded in our supply chain. Which means we only engage partners who share our values and are committed to improving communities.

Every community is different. So, we work with local authorities and colleges to determine the greatest need and identify where we can make the most positive impact. Not just during construction, but for the next 25 years.

Here are just some of the ways our projects have delivered community benefits and social value so far:

  • Recruitment and training of unemployed and economically inactive people
  • Creating new apprenticeships and graduate placements

  • Delivering educational initiatives, such as engagement with local schools on the promotion of STEM subjects

  • Delivering community initiatives to support local needs and leaving a lasting legacy within the community
  • Developing the WEP Academi, a skills programme to upskill the Welsh supply chain in vital areas that that support the decarbonisation agenda and BIM ambitions.

United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

Every WEPCo project aligns with four of the UN’s SDGs:

SDG - 4 Quality education
SDG - 7 Affordable and clean energy
SDG - 9 Industry, Innovation and infrastructure
SDG - 13 Climate Action
